POSITION TITLE: Research Scientist

LOCATION: Baltimore, MD

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Scientific Innovations

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: This individual will serve as a lead investigator on R&D projects from designing through planning and budgeting to execution, result reporting and publishing.


  • Assist with writing, updating and implementing protocols for Personalized Oncology Services (POS) oncology studies in
  • Design and implement R&D projects in in vivo xenograft mouse avatar-based diagnostic models
  • Assist with arrangements and communication between vendors for various molecular testing
  • Review cancer genotypes and tumor characterization data and provide updates to the POS manager
  • Work closely with the Manager of Laboratory Operations Manager and POS project manager
  • Assist in preparation of interim and final study reports
  • Participate in grant and manuscript writing and submission
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • Ability to interpret tumor measurements, table results, maintain sophisticated database on LIMS and construct graphs and generate both detailed and executive summary reports
  • Knowledge of cancer genotypes and tumor characterization by the following preferred: Gene Expression, Oncogene Mutations, Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH), Promoter Methylation, Micro-RNA and Proteomics
  • Knowledge and understanding of the preclinical drug development process
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate scientific data to internal and external colleagues
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to maneuver in new software platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality
  • Creative problem solving skills and the ability to exercise sound and accurate judgment in making timely decisions
  • Superior planning, organizational, computer, written and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to network and negotiate effectively
  • Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for own work, observe safety and security procedures
  • Ability to work independently


  • Ph.D. degree in biomedical science, pharmacology or related discipline biology
  • Hands-on experience in animal models is essential with experience in oncology models desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in oncology research and drug development
  • Experience in data interpretation and statistical analysis
  • Minimum 4 years of experience developing and working with in vivo cancer models ideally in a preclinical industry setting


  • Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel
  • In carrying out the duties of the job there will be some exposure to fumes and chemical hazards
  • Duties performed occasionally require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
  • Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer in a typical office environment in a multi-level facility
